While the Grand Duchy’s position in the index fell two places in the overall ranking, it shows the continuous progress the financial center is making towards integrating sustainable finance into the ecosystem.

The latest GGFI report ranks Luxembourg 7th in the world and 3rd in the EU. Despite good performance in terms of human capital competitiveness, highlighting the depth of talent and expertise in sustainable finance, the country lost two positions in the overall ranking. Nevertheless, more than 70% of respondents also expect Luxembourg to improve its green finance offering in the next two to three years.

Commenting on the index, Nicolas Mackel, CEO of Luxembourg for Finance, noted that “despite being one of the leading green financial centers, we must continue to work together on the goal of a truly sustainable financial system on a global scale. Indeed, the inclusion of more than eighty financial centers in the index, up from 47 three years ago, shows how far sustainable finance has come. This is something we should applaud because these advances are ultimately in everyone’s interest. However, while we are in a period of transition, it is clear that the integration of sustainable finance must accelerate if we are to avoid the very serious consequences warned of by the latest IPCC report.
